The Book of the Goetia of Solomon the King
Edited, Verified, Introduced and Commented
by Aleister Crowley

Magickal Childe Publications: New York, 1989

Some slight rubbing to the cover boards is present, but only when examined in the right light.  (See the photo, when in full light a small spot of rubbing is visible on the bottom of the front cover, right below the A of CLAVICULA) The spine is straight and sturdy.  A bump is visible on the front side of the top corner, but does not extend around. The interior is bright, clean, and unmarked. I suspect this copy was never read, the minor shelf wear is the only evidence that it has been handled..

Herman Slater’s Magickal Childe published some beautiful and well-designed works: books for magicians designed and produced by magicians (See the “True & Faithful” edition that I also have up for auction). In this case, it is a facsimile of the 1904 editions of Goetia - one of the most infamous grimoires of all time. Originally published by The Society for the Propagation of Religious Truth (a name under which Crowley published his works; it could essentially be considered another one of pseudonyms) this edition brilliantly recreates the original’s striking cover design with gold lettering to the cover and spine. Containing A.C.'s brilliant introduction "The Initiated Interpretation of Ceremonial Magic" and his favorite invocation. There have been more thorough explorations of the Solomonic System published, but if you are looking for Crowley's take on the topic - this is the one. (Unless you can shell out for the 1st edition or the Jimmy Page facsimile). The beautiful design makes it an elegant addition to ritual work and the generous formatting ensure that it can be read by candle light. You may want to bookmark those curses though -  in case things get wonky (they are near the end). This edition will hold special significance to those who were familiar to the Magickal Childe bookshop and the NY occult revival.
